Rain/Motor Woes Dampen the #51's Weekend

Posted by Garrett Shover on April 22, 2013 at 10:25 AM Comments comments (0)

“When it rains it pours!” stated a disappointed Tim O’Sheehan Saturday night , “Time to regroup.”

It literally did rain on O’Sheehan Racing Team’s parade Friday night as the weekend lid lifter at Big Diamond Speedway was washed out by rain. This was to be owner/co-driver Tim O’Sheehan’s 2013 debut behind the wheel of the Rehbein’s Service Center & Speed Shop, Leahy’s Auto Body, Dye It Rite, Monte Carlo.

The dark cloud seemed to stick with the team Saturday at Susquehanna Speedway Park, as severe motor problems struck the #51 Street Stock driven by Garrett Shover; also sponsored by Hauenstein Property Maintenance and Valencia Construction. “We changed the carburetor, fan, and belts,” said Shover, “Then the darn thing blows up. No warning, just “BOOM.”’

“On a good note, I felt much more comfortable in the car this week,” commented Shover, “I think my jitters from the first week are gone,” he joked, “ If we can get rid of the motor gremlins, we will be competitive.”

“Time to put the old girl back together,” said O’Sheehan, speaking of an old engine block sitting on the floor of the team’s race shop. “That thing has been around so long, and been through so much: She’s our heartbeat once again.” The team plans on missing this weekend’s race at SSP, and a gap in the Street Stock schedule in May will allow the time needed to get the new power plant assembled. “We are very blessed to have good sponsors, family, and friends. Everyone has been so supportive, and several people are pitching in to help us get back to the track,” said an appreciative O’Sheehan.

O’Sheehan Racing is sponsored by Rehbein’s Service Center & Speed Shop, Leahy’s Auto Body, Dye It Rite, Hauenstein’s Property Maintenance, and Valencia Construction. Many sponsorship opportunities still exist for those wishing to join the team. To learn more about the team or how to join please go to Shovermotorsports.webs.com or the NEW Racing51.webs.com.

O'Sheehan Racing Can't Find Any Luck on the 13th

Posted by Garrett Shover on April 14, 2013 at 2:35 PM Comments comments (0)

Despite the Irish heritage of team owner Tim O’Sheehan, it was all bad luck for the team’s white #51 Saturday night at Susquehanna Speedway Park.

“I tried all my normal superstitions. No money in my pockets, I didn’t tie my shoes, and always put my right glove on first,” said driver Garrett Shover, “There were just too many 13’s.” The season debut for the Rehbein’s Service Center & Speed Shop/Leahy’s Auto Body/Dye It Rite Street Stock team fell on 4/13/13 and Shover pulled number 13 entering the track.

After starting on the front row in the second heat, Shover finished a respectable 3rd place; earning the team an 8th place starting spot in the feature. Early in the feature a fellow competitor had brake issues and made contact with the #51, causing enough damage to sideline the Monte Carlo for the remainder of the event. “It’s incredibly disappointing,” commented owner O’Sheehan, “It’s just hard when you get caught up in somebody else’s problems.”

“It felt great being back behind the wheel again,” said Shover about his first race in nearly 2 ½ years. “I have a little bit of rust to knock off.” Concerning the accident in the feature, “My dad came to me afterwards and said ‘That’s racing.’ And I know that it is. We will just put this week behind us and look forward to the rest of the season.”

The team’s next race will be this Friday at Big Diamond Raceway with team owner O’Sheehan behind the wheel. Shover will be back in the seat Saturday at Susquehanna Speedway Park.

O’Sheehan Racing is sponsored by Rehbein’s Service Center & Speed Shop, Leahy’s Auto Body, Dye It Rite, Hauenstein’s Property Maintenance, and Valencia Construction. Dye It Rite, Leahy’s mobile interior and wheel repair service, will also be featured on the newly painted Monte Carlo.

“I’m glad they’re onboard, but I hope we don’t need their collision repair expertise,” joked co-driver Garrett Shover, “It’s my job now to not mess up the sweet paint job.”

Jerry and Karen Leahy began Dye It Rite in 1984, and opened their auto body shop ,Leahys Auto Body, in 1991. For nearly 30 years the mission of Leahys Auto Body & Dye It Rite has been the same; do honest quality repair work and do what is in the customers best interest.
